Hello! My name is JaNice Maine and I am the Founder of PortBuddy. It was in November of 2011 that Ken, my husband of 43 years, was diagnosed with acute Myeloid Leukemia. The world stopped as our family knew it. He was admitted to the hospital to start chemotherapy in addition to all of the other meds that go along with any kind of cancer.
Our family brought from home whatever we could think of to make Ken feel more comfortable in his hospital room. Comfort is so important when your loved one is suffering. I watched him struggle with his shirt as he was being hooked up to as many tubes as one could imagine and thought there must be a better way. I altered some of his t-shirts to make it easier and more comfortable during his treatments.
The result was our PortBuddy shirt, which is a more comfortable and dignified way to receive meds through a port. We named it PortBuddy, in honor of his childhood name Buddy, and with the hope that others will find it to be their “Buddy” during this lengthy process.
These shirts are now available for all individuals who need them. It is our sincere hope that they will make you or your loved one’s journey a little easier, more comfortable, and less frightening.
